kids-in-hutLily of the Valley is a Children's Home providing care, love and support to children abandoned or orphaned due to parental AIDS suffering.

The number of orphans continues to escalate as AIDs continues to spread through South African communities. A number of homes have been established around the country to care for children orphaned or abandoned due to the AIDs pandemic.

housesThe Lily of the Valley children's home in KwaZulu Natal was founded with this very objective. The home is situated on a 59 acre farm in Eston, near Pietermaritzburg. It is a Government registered children's home, the children are admitted from various child welfare organisations with a court order from the Children's Court. It is a non-profit institution of a public and permanent nature.

23 self-contained three-bedroomed cottages with fitted kitchens, bathrooms and lounges have been built on the property.

loungeA full time house Mother looks after six children in each house and fulfils the role of a real Mother in her care- cooking cleaning, helping with homework and giving the comfort and affection all children need in order to thrive. This system has worked well. This low Mother to child ratio means that the children get quality parenting in a healthy family environment.

This was the motivation for the management to move the children from a dormitory-style orphanage into a more intimate family environment.

kids-seatedWe believe education is the key to a child's future. With this is mind we try to cater for the needs of children at all age levels.

In 2001, we opened a nursery school for our youngest children, where they are taught to interact in a disciplined environment.

pre-school-childrenOur pre-school children attend the Ekujabuleni Pre-Primary School based on the Community Projects. This provides them with stimulation and prepares them for their move to “big” school.
